Baroque - Scene 2

INT. AUCTION HOUSE, MODERN DAY - DAY

A private auction house in Germany. On stage is the large painting from the manor, now covered
with a new canvas depicting a crucifixion scene.

AUCTIONEER (with German accent)
Two hundred thousand euros for this
masterpiece of German Renaissance
art. Are there any more bids?

ADOLPHE, a man in his late 50s, holds up a bidding card in one hand, and signals “fifty” with the other.

AUCTIONEER
Fifty? Two hundred and fifty
thousand euros for this
masterpiece... Do I have any more
bids? Two hundred and fifty
thousand euros going once. Twice.
Sold, for two hundred and fifty
thousand euros to bidder 23.
Congratulations, sir.

Adolphe nods, then rises and leaves. Workers move the painting off stage, as another painting is brought on, and the auction continues.

AUCTIONEER
The next piece is a splendid
display of post-modernism. The
bidding shall start at one hundred
thousand euros.

(notices bidding card held up)
One hundred thousand euros. Do I
hear one hundred thousand ten
euros?
